"BABY BLUE JAYS"

'BABY BLUE JAYS"

"Baby Blue Jays" is a miniature prismacolor colored pencil work on paper and measures just 4"x5". This work is done from a photograph taken by my husband! The little faces on these little guys were what made me just want to sit down and break out my pencils. They seem to have different attitudes.. one is a bit haughty and naughty looking and the one on the right ....well he or she looks content to just stay where she is... Wonder which one of them will take flight next? Their other sibling had already decided to set out on its own.

It is time for them to soar.. to see the countryside.. to take life... away from the only place they have ever known so far . ..where they poked through their little shells and saw what they thought was a profound sense of space... You wonder what they are thinking ! But the reality is that now... they are ready to spread their wings and to become part of a much bigger space than they have ever known.. a profound world with infinite sights to behold!!!

Just like any other living being.. just like us... as we prepare to take the next steps in our lives.. to venture on... to have the courage to discover more of the beautiful universe .. to have the hope of survival... to realize our dreams and to reach out to others to help them to realize their dreams as well.

May we all realize the freedom and the joy that these little baby blue jays do .... with the wind in our faces at times.. and that very same wind hitting us in our backsides at times... may we always continue to Soar.... To reach for our highest potential.. and share our greatest good...

"TYLER HILL RED BARNS SNOW"

"TYLER HILL RED BARNS IN SNOW"
"There is a hush... The trees are bare...a feeling of peace and serenity ...The winter's last snowfall...its white blanket not yet broken by the footprints of "creatures large and small"...yet the pathways trampled by the hard-working farmer...still visible...The sunshine creating shadows and patterns...warming the thin, icy crust on the little pond behind the Tyler Hill Road Barns...
preparing to welcome the new geese and gosslings for a Springtime swim...
The pond begins to crack open... like the shells of the speckled eggs in the nest...warmed by the mother songbird...the father bird sometimes on or near the nest ...sometimes watching it from afar from a not so distant tree branch...
Promises of Spring..
Patches of hay peek out of the soft damp earth beneath the snow which has fallen on the countryside farmfield along the winding road...
The reds of the barns become more vivid in color against the sparkling, soft white snow upon the ground...
Perhaps the last snow...
melting away from the tiny roof of the cupola atop the milkbarns..one of brightly colored red wood... the original barn of old Pennsylvania laid up stone...
The old haybale appears...a remnant of the season past...when it had been nourishment for the livestock...
Now it becomes the building material for the new cozy nests providing for the next family of springtime songbirds...
An artist may not always create a "masterpiece" by technique...Perhaps the most evocative "masterpieces" become such from the thoughts and deep feelings ...the sentiments which the artist hopes to document in some way ...in the hopes that it will be enough to bring to the viewer the knowledge that they, too, can share a pleasant moment or two from the scenes..artistically apt or not... presented to them. We are all artists in that we all have something to share.
Humbly, I present this little piece to you.. In earnest, I am of the opinion that even the not so " "master" pieces " of this artist.. with pencil in hand... wishes to show others that they are artists as well.. that they have something to share..in whatever medium... and that they, too, can "put themselves out there" . It is my intention to share the vision of hope.. to those out there who may think that they are "not good enough" to create...The idea is.. to share a pleasant experience through another medium other than words ...sometimes.. is the ART itself!
I am glad to have had you with me ..to have shared this serene and beautiful part of the day with you at "THE TYLER HILL RED BARNS IN SNOW"
May we all share the visions of COURAGE and Hope for the new season...

CHERRY BLOSSOMS IN OLD HAYRAKE FIELD

"Cherry Blossoms In Old Hayrake Field"
"While living in Northeastern Pennsylvania, the sights of the countrysides.. the old barns.. winding rural roads, the beauty of the changing seasons ... the smell of the woodsmoke on a starlit evening.. mmmm. ...My husband and I miss so many of these experiences so much. It is fortunate that my husband took innumerable photographs during so many of his hiking days... the "off the beaten track" sites always attract him the most.. He sees things in so many ways.. but always with an artist's eye and a beautiful spirit.. His mind always thinking of the majesty of Creation... I , too , see things in much the same way... I was taken by the beauty of the old and the new in this photo. The hours of hard work put in by this hayrake of old.. in the field... and the old tree.. I am certain the tree and the hayrake have been "neighbors" for a very long time.. The thought crosses my mind.. how that tree stood through all of the same seasons as the hayrake.. and now .. as a "friend" to it.. almost as if it wants to say to it "I appreciated your hard work for the farmer and his family so now .. tho I , too, am in my latter years.. I will put forth my pink cherry blossoms for you.. so you can enjoy some scenery during your retirement... "
Many artists are not always pleased with all of the works that result from their efforts at times. The results of my efforts on this piece are not nearly as pleasing to me at all .. yet..I put it out there to you because I want to share the thoughts and the story of this little scene in Northern Wayne County , Pennsylvania.

"LITTLE PINE CONE BOUGH IN SUNSHINE"

" My husband and I relocated to Southeast Florida over 2 years ago from Northeastern Pa. One of the things we both miss most are the pine trees. The smell ,
the grace of their boughs as they are blanketed with snow.. or in the sunshine
as they were this day . My husband shot the photo and I found it recently. We
have beautiful fauna and flora here in Florida... do not misunderstand me..but the seasonal
changes have a profound charm and awe which we are both very homesick for.

The photo somehow made me close my eyes and I actually felt memories of days
when these lovely pine boughs were all around us. So, I decided that it would
be a nice subject to paint .On went some of my favorite Pachelbel and out came
the photo and my pencils and papers ! The result was a lovely day.. even though
it was spent here in Florida.. painting.. remembering.. and giving gratitude for
the bounties of nature's profound wonders... They are all around us. Although I
could not throw on my boots and a down vest to look at the pine boughs up North
this day.. I imagined doing so and the result is "Little Pine Boughs in
Sunshine"

"OLDE LIGHTHOUSE POINT"

"OLDE LIGHTHOUSE POINT"

"When I was a little girl, I have memories of painting a little tiny lighthouse for my Father .
It was for Father's Day. I have always been enchanted by the mystery of lighthouses.
So many have been relocated and used as museums or other tourist attractions..no longer
shining their beacons for sailors who had been at sea... who had been through a voyage
longing to come home again.. to friends.. family .. a warm meal.. and to tell the stories of their journies. The lighthouse beacons were welcome sights for them. It is
also rather fascinating to me ...to think of the life of the lighthouse keeper.. living in the
simple close quarters of these beckoning structures. As our sons were growing up , we
spent a good deal of time on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.. This tiny
little painting is a simple memory of those times. "

SUNSHINE BUTTERFLY FOR NICOLE

"SUNSHINE BUTTERFLY FOR NICOLE"

"Our daughter -in-law, Nicole, has become quite an accomplished photographer. Each time she sends us photos they are more and more lovely. This past summer, she and our son Jeffrey bought a lovely little second home on the Northern Neck of Virginia. There , along with two of our four grandchildren, they enjoyed the outdoors and the sunshine. Nicole found numerous subjects which she photographed. Several of them caught my eye . I am just a novice at my Prismacolor Colored Pencil Miniatures, but when I saw the photo of the sunflower with the sweet little butterfly on it... I thought I would try to capture its brightness and cheerfulness!"
My husband is a Surgical Coordinator in the Operating Room of one of our local hospitals. But for the past 20 years he has also been a Watercolor Artist. When he is painting I love being in our in home studio ..listening to the Classical and Jazz music we both enjoy .. and that is where I dabble with my Prismacolors and Mi Teintes paper and paint my little miniatures .
Along with a nice cup of tea .. it is a lovely way to spend time together.. relaxing.. enjoyable.. comfortable.. and ...well.. all I can say is.. Life is Good... with all of the challenges we are all faced with ... Life is Good!"
